7 THINGS TO KEEP MIND AFTER CHILDBIRTH
By Victoria Healthcare 05 June 2019
1.Breastfeeding
Breastmilk helps build your baby’s immunity, providing antibodies against many dangerous diseases. Besides direct breastfeeding, you may extract your breastmilk and feed it to your baby with a bottle.
2. Diet
It’s best to have a diet consisting of a wide variety of fresh vegetables and fruits, cereals, and protein rich foods (such as meat, fish, egg, milk, etc.). Drinking plenty of water and taking calcium and iron supplements at the recommended doses are also advisable.
3. Rest well
Sufficient amount of rest helps you de-stress and reduce fatigue while promoting physical recovery. Try to rest when your baby is asleep.
4. Ask for help
Your family members may help you take care of your baby or your older children, do chores, or cook. Besides, you can also consider house maid services.
5. Exercise
Consult with your doctor to learn about the best time to resume exercises. Ideas for post-delivery exercises include walking while holding your baby, and practicing yoga.
6. Sex
You should wait at least 6 weeks after vaginal childbirth or 8 weeks after a C-section before having sex. Even if you haven’t got your period back, you should still use protection measures to prevent pregnancy.
7. Postpartum depression
According to the American Psychological Association, 1 out of 7 women suffer from postpartum depression. Therefore, if you experience a loss of interest, hopelessness or suicidal thoughts, seek professional help right away.
