3 SIGNS YOU'RE TOO STRESSED TO SLEEP
By Victoria Healthcare 27 May 2019
- You have too many things going on in your mind
When you are too stressed, fatigued or busy, getting a good night’s sleep will be even more important but also more difficult. Your thoughts are surrounding you everywhere, taking away your sleep.
Solution: Lack of sleep is a sign that you’re exhausted. It’s time to make plans for relaxation such as going to a spa, traveling, meditation, yoga, etc. or just simply not bringing work home!
- Your muscles hurt due to tension
If you have muscle tension and pain, or other aches related to stress, such as neck pain, shoulder pain or headaches, you may have difficulty falling asleep. Or you may not maintain quality sleep. Poor sleep may give you headaches and even more stress and difficulty concentrating and keeping a good mood the next day.
Solution: You may actually consider getting more active physically, at the gym, or just walking. Then, let your body get some rest at night. You may wish to try a few basic yoga stretches. Yoga not only helps relieve pain but alsotreats your stress quite effectively.
- Your heart suddenly skips a beat
Increased or irregular heartbeats are a common sign of stress. This may have something to do with the increase in cortisol and adrenaline levels (stress hormones), physical tension, and increased autonomic arousal. These can all contribute to sleep disorders.
Solution: Practice deep breathing when you are emotional. You can go out to get fresh air, listen to classical or soft music or talk to someone to de-stress. DEstress beats DIStress every time. If the problem is more serious, you should consult with your doctor. He or she may give you medication to help regulate your heart beats.
